Bushy Point Fernbirds Homestay

Feature Image for Bushy Point Fernbirds Homestay

Just 5 minutes drive from Invercargill airport and 25 minutes to the port of Bluff, our comfortable homestay is situated on 4.5 hectares of private reserve and makes up part of the Awarua Ramsar Wetland of International Importance site. It is the perfect place to stay before travelling to Stewart Island or as a base to explore the Catlins, Southland or Fiordland.

The reserve has a remnant population of fernbirds and rare native plants with mature podocarp forest and saltmarsh. We have protected and enhanced this unique reserve to minimise impact on the natural environment.

Due to extensive pest control our homestay is an oasis for birders and nature lovers alike. Wake up to the dawn chorus of Tuis and Bellbirds, which is rarely heard on mainland New Zealand today.

Our boardwalk makes this the easiest site in New Zealand for a visiting birder to view fernbirds. If you do not have time to stay over we will guide casual groups. A small charge will apply.

NZ$100 single $120 couple breakfast and guided walk included.
